Take away Lumsden – the take away generation. The aesthetics of the take away

Yeu-Lai Mo’s artwork presents an acute observation of growing up as a British Chinese and working in her parents’ Chinese takeaway in her adolescent years. Incorporating a large-scale, iconic photo-poster, food sculptures and a sound piece, she makes autobiographical and humorous references to issues within the Chinese community and takeaway culture.

The evidence shows that collective behaviour is all around us and it has been around for thousands of years. It seems that the worlds existence depends on us working as a collective.

social roles in groups

It is said that when in a group each member plays a particular role. A group is defined as having at least 3 and no more that 15 members. Less than 3 is a dyad, 3 members form coalitions and some kind of organisation exists. More than 15 inhibits communication between members. Interaction and communicatation has to be free and open, develop norms and roles will be taken on – a common goal or purpose brings a group together. (more…)
