Administrator     a person who manages or has a talent for managing
Advocate     person supporting an idea or cause publicly
Agent     to represent (a person or thing) as an agent
Artist    a person who produces works in any of the arts that are primarily subject to aesthetic criteria
Author    the composer of a literary work
Avant-garde    A group active in the invention and application of new techniques in a given field, especially in the arts
Broker     One that acts as an agent for others, as in negotiating contracts, purchases, or sales in return for a fee or commission.
Collaborator     an associate in an activity or endeavour or sphere of common interest
Collector      A person who makes a collection
Commissioner     A person authorized by a commission to perform certain duties
Composer    a person or thing that composes
Creator     somebody who brings something into existence
Curator     the custodian of a collection
Dealer    One who deals; one who has to do, or has concern, with others
Developer    a person or thing that develops
Diplomat    a person who is tactful and skilful in managing delicate situations, handling people

Initiator     to introduce into the knowledge of some art or subject

Mediator    a negotiator who acts as a link between parties

Organiser     a person who brings order and organization to an enterprise
Practitioner    One who is engaged in the actual use or exercise of any art or profession
Presenter     someone who presents a message of some sort
Producer     One who produces, brings forth, or generates
Programmer    a person who prepares program schedules
Promoter     One who, or that which, forwards, advances, or promotes; an encourager
Researcher     One who conducts diligent and systematic inquiry or investigation into a subject in order to discover or revise fact
Sponsor     a person who vouches or is responsible for a person or thing
Traveller    a person who changes location
Validator     One who gives official sanction, confirmation, or approval
Writer    a person engaged in writing books, articles, stories, etc.

S2 – Reconsider Primitivism through Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907) – 19/02/09

The strange utopia ideals that have been placed on this painting baffle me – so what is primitivism? ‘it is a way of life that is counter to the technology and the changes brought about by technology’. Primitive was considered to be someone of a particular country – stereotypes such as savagery, nobility, simplicity, exoticism, mystery and paganism. People seeking primitivism are hoping to leave behind corruption of the western society – they saw the ‘primitive’ way closer to nature, mother earth, pure not tainted by civilisation. Utopia? I wonder ….. do the so called ‘primitives’ consider themselves living in utopia or do they want to be in the technology driven society. I like technology, I love progression, we can not stop it so enjoy it. (more…)

In Florence, fresher, crisper more described

Her orange juice tasted sweeter that ever that morning. The early morning sun felt even more embracing. The private view at Via Sant’ Antonino went so much better than expected, reminder for the black book ‘Never work with children, animals or Italian-American artists!’ Susanna Lucia Lamaina relationship with her subjects is laden with soul and purpose; you would believe another world was possible. Flesh is very different. Success did prevail another contact was made. One worth following up this time. (more…)

Life is Over! If you want it – gallery talk. Cooper Gallery, DJCAD

Listening to the conversation I pick up on the statement – develop a relationship to analyse the practice. Maybe this is what I need to do, develop a relationship that will analyse my practice. A distance relationship. Establish modes of communication. It could be the current one I am engaging in.

Can people use me as a tool? – offer knowledge and experience. Would people use it? Curator on loan. ‘Exhibition required for experienced curator’, like a lonely hearts ad. I need to establish expectations and consider cultural differences. What is participation? Would artist led organisations loan a curator? Isn’t a curator required to activate. Activate the creation, discussion, debate, solution. Or is it the artist or both. Selection in order to activate? (more…)
